Web Reference: Louis W. Witten (born April 13, 1921) [1] is an American theoretical physicist and the father of the physicist Edward Witten. Witten's research has centered on classical gravitation, including the discovery of certain exact electrovacuum solutions to the Einstein field equation. Louis Witten is working on the study of gravitational collapse in general relativity theory. He is also interested in investigating the Quantum nature of black holes. Louis Witten was born to a Jewish family in Baltimore, Maryland. Witten graduated as a Civil Engineer from The Johns Hopkins University in 1941. From 1942 to 1946 he served in the United States Army Air Forces as a Radar Weather Officer.
