He is most familiar today as Uncle Joe Carson from the Petticoat Junction, [1] Green Acres, and The Beverly Hillbillies television sitcoms of the 1960s. Dec 16, 2025 · Edgar Buchanan’s death marked the quiet passing of one of television’s most beloved character actors, a man whose gruff charm and twinkling humor made him a familiar presence in American living rooms for decades. From 1929 to 1937, he practiced oral surgery in Eugene, Oregon. He then moved his practice to Altadena, CA. There he joined the Pasadena Community Playhouse, eventually giving up dentistry at the age of 36 to become an actor. He made his film debut in 1939.
